Ixia is a resort strip rather than an old fishing village, so its dining sits mostly inside the big hotels that line the bay, with a few independent places filling the gaps. That sounds unpromising, but the standard is high, and the setting is hard to beat: calm water, windsurfers, and a sunset that lands right over your table. If you want one memorable dinner, book Porfyra at the Atrium Platinum. For an easy, cheaper meal, Valentina’s Place near the beach does the job. And when you want more choice, Rhodes Town is ten minutes up the coast. Details below were checked in July 2026, but menus and hours move around, so confirm when you book. For wider island information there is also Visit Greece, the national tourist board.

What is the food scene in Ixia actually like?

Ixia grew up around package hotels in the 1970s, so it never developed the tangle of tavernas you find in older Greek towns. Most of the best seafront tables belong to hotels, and several are open to non-residents if you book. The food ranges from Greek fine dining to Mediterranean buffets and a bit of Asian, and the water views are the common thread. For traditional tavernas and street food you are better off in Rhodes Town, which is close enough to treat as part of the same trip.

Where are the best seafront restaurants in Ixia?

These are the seafront and near-seafront places worth booking, with what each one does best:

Porfyra, at the Atrium Platinum

Porfyra is the one to book for a proper evening out. It is the Atrium Platinum’s gourmet Greek restaurant, with tables set for the sunset over the bay. Expect a smarter dress code than the rest of the strip, long trousers for men, and there is usually a lobster night midweek. Reserve a day ahead, as it fills up and is popular for anniversaries and the like.

Archipelagos and Koi, same hotel, different moods

Archipelagos is the Atrium Platinum’s main Mediterranean restaurant, a broad buffet with bay views that suits families and fussy groups because everyone finds something. Koi, also on site, does Asian food and is the obvious pick on the night you have had enough moussaka. Neither is cheap, but both come with the same view.

Luviana, at Rhodes Sea Villas

A little quieter than the hotel dining rooms, Luviana sits at Rhodes Sea Villas and cooks Mediterranean dishes more or less to order, so it is worth flagging anything you particularly want when you book. The outdoor setting is the draw, and it works well for a relaxed couple’s dinner rather than a big group.

Valentina’s Place, for a casual meal

When you do not want a hotel dining room, Valentina’s Place is the reliable independent, a short walk from Ixia Beach. It is family run and does the Greek staples well: a proper Greek salad, gyros, halloumi and chicken in pitta, plus vegetarian and vegan options, which are thinner on the ground elsewhere on the strip. Prices are a fraction of the hotel restaurants, and it is open through the day.

Where to eat near Ixia, in Rhodes Town

Ten minutes along the coast, Rhodes Town has the range Ixia lacks, from tavernas in the Medieval City, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, to modern places along the marina. Wonder, on Eleftheriou Venizelou, is a good shout for something different, mixing Asian, Mediterranean and Scandinavian plates. If you are basing yourself in Ixia, plan at least one evening in the Old Town, since it is where the island’s dining really opens up.

What should you order in Rhodes?

Stick close to what the island does well: grilled fish and octopus, lamb kleftiko, tomato fritters, and the local soft cheese, and finish with melekouni, a sesame and honey sweet that comes out at Rhodian celebrations. Greek salad and souvlaki are safe everywhere. For a fuller rundown of what to eat across the Dodecanese, we go into it in our guide to Greek food from Kos to Rhodes.

How do you get from Ixia to Rhodes Town?

It is about four kilometres, so a taxi takes ten minutes and is cheap by UK standards. The local bus runs along the coast road regularly through the day and costs a couple of euros. Plenty of people walk or cycle the seafront path in the cooler part of the evening. If you are driving, parking is easier at the edge of the Old Town than inside its walls, where cars are mostly barred.

Booking it right

One habit pays off in Ixia. Reserve the hotel restaurants a day ahead in July and August, when they fill with residents, and keep at least one evening free for dinner in the Old Town. Do that and you get the best of both, the view from the bay and the buzz of the Medieval City. For more ideas around the region, browse our Europe guides or the rest of the Greece coverage.

FAQs

Does Ixia have restaurants right on the beach?

Yes, though most of the seafront tables belong to hotels along the bay, such as the Atrium Platinum’s Porfyra and Archipelagos. Several accept non-residents if you book ahead. For an independent option near the sand, Valentina’s Place is a short walk from Ixia Beach.

What is the best restaurant in Ixia for a special dinner?

Porfyra at the Atrium Platinum is the usual choice for a special evening, with gourmet Greek food, a smarter dress code and sunset views over Ixia Bay. Book a day ahead in summer, and ask about the midweek lobster night if that appeals.

Where can you eat cheaply in Ixia?

Valentina’s Place is the best value on the strip, a family-run spot near the beach doing Greek salads, gyros and pitta wraps for a fraction of the hotel prices. For more budget choice, the tavernas in Rhodes Town are ten minutes away and generally cheaper again.

Is Ixia good for families with children?

It is. The hotel buffets, Archipelagos among them, suit families because there is variety for fussy eaters, and the calm bay is safe for paddling. Casual spots like Valentina’s Place are relaxed about children and have vegetarian options.

How far is Ixia from Rhodes Town?

About four kilometres, or a ten-minute taxi. The coast-road bus runs regularly and costs a couple of euros, and the flat seafront path is walkable or cyclable if the evening is cool.
